Basic 2-3-4 Mashup

This is a 2-person team game. EACH TEAM MUST USE AT LEAST ONE TEE SHOT PER PLAYER ON THE FINAL SEVEN HOLES (#12-18).

Players may choose their partners and request them prior to the event using the normal RSVP methods. Players registering as singles will be assigned a partner from the pool of other singles.

Team's will be assigned a handicap using GHIN handicaps and based on the following formula:
60% of the lower handicap + 40% of the higher handicap = Team handicap

The event requires switching the game after a certain number of holes, as follows:

  1. On holes 10 and 11, normal stroke play: each player plays their own ball all the way to the hole. Both player’s scores are entered onto the scorecard on their individual score lines.

  2. On holes 12, 13 and 14, Shamble rules: each player tees off from their normal tees. The team selects the best ball, then each plays their own ball in to the hole from that spot. Both player’s scores are entered onto the scorecard on their individual scorelines.

  3. On holes 15, 16, 17 and 18, 2-person team scramble: Select the best ball after the tee shots. Both teammates hit from there. Select the best second shot, both hit from there, etc., until the ball is holed. That score goes on the scorecard on the team scoreline.

Scoring (done by league officials):

  • The lowest score for each hole on the individual score lines will be circled and used as the team score for those holes (#10 through #14)
  • The team score will be used for holes #15 through #18.
  • The team scores for each hole will be totaled to find the gross score.
  • The team's handicap will be subtracted from the gross score to get the team's final net score.

For this contest, GHIN handicaps will be used. There will be a 10-stroke maximum separation from the lowest and highest handicaps for the team. The final team scores will be figured using the team handicap, which will be developed as noted above. The team’s net score is the gross team score less the determined team handicap.

Here's some scorecard examples. Note the description under the graphic.

(This paragraph is not part of the rules page. It's a note for you to compare samples side-by-side. For each set of cards, the cards on the left side are straightforward. The ones on the right are the same as the left, but with lines added to indicate game switches. We've provided the lined format in the past to make it clearer as to when to switch off from game to game, including blocking off the second line for holes 15-18 to indicate a team score, not individual entries. It will be up to you to decide if you will want to take the time to line each score card before the round.

Also, the first two sets would be part of the TOURNAMENT RULES page to help explain the game switches with scorecard examples using red text to describe the elements on the card. The three groups after that are examples of the scorecard as it would be processed during the round: pre-match card (blank score lines), post-match card with the team's hole score entries, and post-match card scored by league officials.)

Finally, here are four sample cards with 2 teams per card instead of one. The first group is the sample card with text, the other is a pre-match card that represents what would be given to the teams. I could additionally provide one of each of the above, but I think you'll agree, it gets too messy with two teams, especially the lined versions.
